Good food.
Thoughtful choices.

Care starts with what’s in your meal. It shouldn’t end with what it’s served in.

Less black plastic.
More care.

Two ways to picture the same estimated amount. Based on representative packaging weights; actual weights vary. Bottle comparison is by weight, excluding caps. Plastic in replacement packaging has not been deducted.

One thoughtful choice.
Made again and again.

Moving away from black plastic trays was an early choice. Your orders help carry that commitment forward, every week.

Our tray choice is one part of the package. Other components vary.

We changed the tray.
Kept the heart.

In the beginning, we were figuring it out as we went. Allie was cooking to help her brother, and everything from the meals to the handwritten labels came together along the way.

About a year after starting Tough Cookies, we moved away from black plastic trays. We wanted the care we put into our food to carry through to its packaging, too.

Black plastic made with carbon-black pigment can be missed by some optical sorting machines at recycling facilities, making it harder to recover for recycling.

As we’ve grown, that intention has stayed with us. High-quality nutrition. Delicious food. More thought in the everyday details.

The story behind the meals

A choice we made early.
And keep making.

Our packaging costs more than the plastic we started with. We’ve made room for that cost because this commitment belongs in the way we run our business.

Care for the food. Thought for the packaging.
01

A cost we choose to carry.

Using cheaper packaging would leave more in our margins. We’ve chosen to keep investing in the packaging we use. It’s a tradeoff we’re comfortable making.

02

Part of every week.

What began as an early change has become part of our everyday work. As Tough Cookies has grown, we’ve stayed with that choice, week after week.

03

The food still comes first.

High-quality nutrition is the heart of Tough Cookies. Thinking about our packaging sits alongside that promise: food made from scratch, with care for the people eating it.

A staple of our brand.
Part of your everyday.

Choosing a better lunch can be a small act of care for yourself. We believe preparing it should be an act of care, too—for the food, the packaging and the community we’re part of.

A little clarity.
A little more care.
